Lake Titicaca By Lucy Zhang

Table of Contents Introduction Websites How it was formed? What about it? Physical Features Description Does Lake Titicaca deserve to be a Wonder of the Western Hemisphere?

Introduction Lake Titicaca is one of the Natural Wonders of the Western Hemisphere! It lies between Peru and Bolivia right in the territory of Andes mountains (another wonder). Lake Titicaca is South America, Peru’s largest Lake. It reveals a fascinating history, where the ncas once settled in that area. It is full of culture, and has the Titicaca National Reservation, and shelters rare animal species. This tourist attraction is where Time stands still and traditions stay.

How it was formed? Lake Titicaca was right next to the Andes Mountains and right between the border of Peru and Bolivia. It is formed about sixty million years ago during the Ice-Age. The Lake was formed when massive earthquakes shook the ground of the Andes mountains. Splitting the range into two and forming a hollow that soon enough melted glaciers filled the hollow with water. First creating bodies of water, then rivers and at last the immense huge Lake Titicaca. The area which now stands lake Titicaca, home to animals and indigenous communities.

What’s it about? Lake Titicaca is South America’s second largest Lake based on its volume. It’s home to many rare animal species, Indigenous tribes, and holds it’s traditions. It stands between Bolivia and Peru in its border. It’s also stands right next to the Andes Mountain. It gives a boost of tourist Attraction with it’s fish species, snails and something also very important is that boating is a very important transportation in this area. There’s also local families and many underwater ruins that you might want to explore. It’s nature view of the Lake when you sit on the Andes mountains is beautiful, it holds more freshwater than any other lake in South America. The grass, animals, plants and amazing tourist attraction like the Uros islands, it’s a mesmerizing experience. To me Lake titicaca is considered as one of the greatest Lakes in the world.

Physical Features It is 250,000(3,180 meters) feet above sea level Located in the Andes mountains, /in the border of Bolivia and peru. Frog (telmatobius) reaches nearly the length of a foot, inhabits the shallower regions of the lake. During the rainy seasons (summer to March, December) the water level rises. It covers some 3, 200 meters It’s water surface reaches up to 56 degrees fahrenheit (14 degrees celsius). Covers more freshwater in the South America than any other lake.

Description- It is the largest Freshwater Lake in South America. It has a color of deep heavy blue in it’s Lake. It’s underwater is full of life, where it shelters frogs, snails, fish and other animals. It gives a fascinating experience to tourists, because of the traditional people who still live there, they also sell their cultural handcrafts. It has great scenery from the freshwater, floating islands, grass, and navy blue colored water.

Does Lake Titicaca deserve to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Western Hemisphere? I think Lake Titicaca does deserve to be a wonder, because what most interests me is it’s UNDERWATER RUINS! I saw images of temples, treasures buried under Lake Titicaca surface. And don’t get me started talking about fish! Do you know how much I wonder about catfish? I can’t believe how they got those whisker like features, they even live in the shallower regions of Lake Titicaca. I also wonder about their people, how do they live around the Lake, how do they get food, do they really transport everywhere by boat? Wow! What a wonder!
