UNDERSTANDING UNIT CONVERSION Semester to Quarter 3 semester units X 1.5 = 4.5 quarter units 120 semester units X 1.5 = 180 quarter units The excess units that are accrued may count towards electives. Quarter to Semester 4 quarters units / 1.5 = 2.67 semester units 180 quarter units / 1.5 = 120 semester units

COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS Fall 2017 First-time Freshmen Students Fall 2017 Transfer Students & Continuing Students New Curriculum Sheet, Roadmap Your Degree Progress Report (DPR) will change in mid-August. No more support, most of these courses have now been moved to Core. In the semester curriculum there are now just GE & Core Courses. For now, you will remain on the quarter curriculum. Follow your DPR and curriculum sheet given to you at orientation. Your Degree Progress Report (DPR) will not change in August. You will take the new semester courses to fulfill the discrepancies or “red boxes” on your DPR. Excess units that are accrued may count towards CS Core electives.
CS COMMON QUESTIONS What classes should I take in the Fall 2018 semester? If you are first-time freshman, you will follow your new semester curriculum and roadmap. If you are a Fall 2017 transfer or continuing student, you will follow your quarter curriculum sheet and roadmap. Look at your quarter to semester department guide or conversion guide to discover the new semester course numbering. Do I need to take CS 301 & CS 256? It depends on your curriculum year. What if I took a course that is not counting on the new CS semester curriculum? We will petition it to count as an elective. This applies to CS 299 or MAT 214. How many units should I be taking a semester? 15 units per semester (5 classes). Sample Schedule: 2 Core Courses, 2 Electives, 1 GE If I want to switch back to the quarter curriculum, when can I? In the coming months, we will have more information regarding this process. If I want to switch to the semester curriculum, when can I?
