Georgian Hills Middle School 2014 TCAP Prep Campaign We Deserve It! Georgian Hills Middle School 2014 TCAP Prep Campaign

Our children deserve the best scores we can prepare them to achieve. PARENTS WE NEED YOU!

PARENTS YOUR CHILDREN NEED YOU! Standardized testing is the “gatekeeper” for future opportunities and prosperity for your children. PARENTS YOUR CHILDREN NEED YOU!

A student’s TCAP Performance is like a house… Houses come in different conditions and with varying qualities. A student’s TCAP Performance is like a house…

Advanced, proficient, basic, below basic If we viewed student TCAP scores as a type of house… Below Basic Advanced, proficient, basic, below basic Where would you want your child living?

What type of house has your child been building on TCAP since 3rd grade? Our desire is for our children to build advanced and nothing less than proficient houses.

Team work makes the dream work. Help our efforts to help your child build (achieve) the best house (scores) they can this year.

Give us a hand by Giving us 5! Make sure your child arrives to school by 8am every day and remains at school until dismissal at 3pm. 2. Insist that your child behaves appropriately at school by doing what they know is right and doing what is right the first time. 3. Provide your child with the materials they need for learning at school and take time to have them demonstrate what they are learning to you by reading to you; writing to you; performing computations for you; and teaching you as if they are the teacher. 4. Have your child engage in web-based applications such as Stanford Math and Reading Plus while at home and particularly over the weekend (students know their login information and they can also show you screens that display their performance levels in these interventions; and attend after-school tutoring and Saturday sessions to give them additional opportunities for building their best scores (houses). 5. Know your child’s last year’s TCAP scores. What type of house did they build last year?

Important dates to know March 3 – April 28 TCAP Prep (We Deserve It! Campaign) March 17 Family Learning Night 4p-5p Fantastic Fridays March 21, 28; April 4, 11, 17*, 25 (TCAP Practice Tests) Spectacular Saturdays March 22, 29; April 5, 12, 26 (9a-noon) TCAP Pep Rally April 28 @ 2pm TCAP 2014 April 29 – May 2 WDI Celebration May 5 (Cinco de Mayo)

What do the TCAP Scoring Bands Mean? Advanced means a student performed in a tested area above the grade level in which they tested. (for example: 7th grader is performing at 8th grade level or beyond.) Proficient means a student performed in a tested area at the grade level in which they tested and is prepared to move to the next grade. (for example: 7th grader is performing at beginning 8th grade level.) Basic means a student performed in a tested area at the entry level of the grade in which they tested and is not prepared for the next grade. (for example: 7th grader is performing at beginning 7th grade level , but the student is at the end of 7th grade academic year.) Below Basic means a student performed in a tested area at least one grade level below than the grade in which they tested and is not prepared for the next grade level or their current grade level. (for example: 7th grader is performing at best at beginning 6th grade level, but could be performing at a grade level lower than 6th.) The TCAP test is administered during the final quarter of the academic year.

We deserve it! Our students, our families, our teachers, our school, and our community deserve our best on the 2014 TCAP Test.
