The Beginning of the Great Depression The Great depression began right after the roaring 20's, it was the dramatic downslide for the economy. One of the main causes of the great depression was the Stock Market Crash or better known as "Black Tuesday." The stock market lost over 20% of its rates in only a few days and since the banks invested in the market they lost there money as well making half the nations banks close. This became known as they first days of the great depression. https://www.thebalance.com/the-great- depression-of-1929-3306033

The Impact on farmers Most Depressions never affected the farmers, but this time they weren't so lucky. The great depression hit them as hard as everyone else, they got hit with what's known as "The Dust Bowl" or "The Dirty Thirty's."The Dust bowl occurred because of a long and dramatic draught where farmers lived and worked. This caused the soil to go bad, no water, and dust storms. Dust storms occurred every day, if you breath in the dust you could get sick getting it in your lungs and many animals died because of this.  http://www.history.com/topics/dust- bowl#

New Deal After the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt he made it his number one goal to help the people he now has to protect and represent. In his first few days he put his plan in action, it was called "The New Deal." This plan contained many things to help both Factory workers/city folks, and also Farmers who lost there crops in the dust storms. By 1939, the New Deal had helped very many poor workers and unemployed. The programs of the New Deal "set a precedent for the federal government to play a key role in the economic and social affairs of the nation." http://www.loc.gov/teachers/classroomma terials/presentationsandactivities/presen tations/timeline/depwwii/newdeal/

New Deal Programs The New Deal had many programs involved to help get country back on it's feet, the top 5 Programs were... 1.CCC - Civilian Conservation Corps 2.CWA - Civil Works Administration 3.FHA - Federal Housing Administration 4.FSA - Federal Security Agency 5.HOLC - Home Owner's Loan Corporation https://www.thoughtco.com/franklin- roosevelt-32nd-president-united-states- 104645

Rural Electrification Act Was created to give electricity to rural areas during the creation of the new deal. This act was formed to help farmers and to keep them wanting to stay farmers.  The act alone was not strong enough and did not decrease percent of migration from farms to cities. http://newdeal.feri.org/tva/tva10.htm

General Textile Strike 1934 This strike was one of the largest in history during that time. Almost half a million textile workers were involved. In the end the strike was a complete fail in the South and the workers had to get back to work with low wages, and bad working conditions http://www.peoplesworld.org/article/to day-in-labor-history-1934-textile- workers-strike-begins/

CCC and WPA CCC "Civilian Conservation Corps" left a legacy of strong, handsome roads, bridges, and buildings throughout the United States http://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h1586.html WPA "Works Progress Administration" Led to the creation of the National Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/general- article/dustbowl-wpa/

PWA and SSA PWA "Public Works Administration" $4 billion spent in the construction of more than 70 percent of the United states'  educational buildings; courthouses, city halls, and sewage- disposal plants,  public-health facilities, and of all roads, bridges, and subways. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Public-Works- Administration SSA "Social Security Act"  Social Security is now helping retired Americans and the disabled, and gives death benefits to taxpayer dependents. The Social Security system has remained unchanged since 1935. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/fdr- signs-social-security-act

Santee Cooper Electricity Project This project gave power to many in rural areas that did not have any. Also known as "South Carolina Public Service Authority."  https://prezi.com/zjmqrjvcryuc/new-deal-project/

End of the Great Depression Even though the New Deal helped a great deal during the Great Depression, it did not officially end until WW2 because the manufacturing of guns and weapons helped many poor and unemployed workers because the factories needed workers and the unemployed were the people for the job.
