IEEE Standards Education Strategic Planning for 2017-2020 Standards Education Committee 20 February 2017 James Irvine, Chair, SEC Jennifer A. McClain, Educational Activities Susan K. Tatiner, Standards Association

Today’s Agenda Introduction: 15 minutes What’s the next big challenge for standards education? (30 minutes) What are we going to do this year and for next 3 years? (30-45 minutes)

Standards Education Approach IEEE is at the forefront of standards education and is continuing to pull ahead with the newly designed website, increased content, and collaboration opportunities. Gateway persuading people who don’t know they need education about standards Creating demand where there is yet no demand Doing it for: Humanity (prosperity in the world and equal opportunity) The IEEE (standards are critical part of IEEE’s portfolio…we’re small, but famous) Industry (came to IEEE asking for standards education)

Mapping to IEEE’s Strategic Plan for 2015-2020 IEEE’s Goals 1) Expand and enable communities 2) Provide forums for knowledge sharing on emerging and disruptive technologies 3) Lead humanitarian efforts around the world 4) Public Policy Support Key Initiatives supporting IEEE’s Goals Provide more opportunities, products, and services aimed at increasing our value to professionals working in the industry, particularly younger professionals and entrepreneurs. Ensure the vitality and relevance of our core activities in standards, conferences, education, and publications while providing increased value to our members. Evaluate and adapt organizational structures and processes to meet the demands of a changing environment while managing the financial and sustainable health of the IEEE. Develop programs in public service focused on knowledge and technology in our fields of interest related to public policy and humanitarian efforts.
