Britain, Ripe for Revolution Wednesday March 28th 2012 Vocab: Demand Capital Guiding Questions: 1. What are the 3 reasons why Britain was the perfect place for the industrial revolution?

Why Britain? Reason #1: Natural Resources were abundant Water: Natural ports, and navigable rivers which made construction of canals easy. Canals increased trade and communications and was CHEAP Coal: Used to power steam engines Iron: build new machines

Why Britain continued Reason #2: The effects of Demand and Capital Britain had a lot of skilled workers. Combined with the population explosion, this created a demand for goods Demand: the amount of goods a consumer is willing and able to buy The colonies were producing capital (money) that the British could use to invest in businesses like shipping, mining railroads and factories

Why Britain continued Reason #3: Britain had a stable government The government was strong, the British could trust the economy and take risks investing money The government built a strong navy that protected the empire
