The Great Compromise A 2-house legislature was created 1st house SENATE Representation based on equality 2nd house HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Representation based on population
The Three-Fifths Compromise Northern states NO Southern states YES Decision: 3/5ths of a state’s slave population would count toward total population EXAMPLE: South Carolina 10,000 non-slaves 10,000 slaves TOTAL POPULATION = 16,000 people
