How well do you know the New England Annual Conference by the numbers?

How many churches are in the New England Conference? 193 593 993

At the end of 2017, there were 593 churches in the New England Conference 68 of the 593 churches are Federated or United churches that include other denominations as well as United Methodists. 43% of the Federated/United churches are in Vermont.

How many of the 525 UMCs submitted a 2017 statistical report? 475 500 525

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For the 1st time in my 25 years as statistician, all 525 NEAC United Methodist Churches submitted a statistical report. 32 Federated/United Churches also submitted a report.

How many people are professing members in the New England Conference How many people are professing members in the New England Conference? Hint: Last year there were 81,231members 78,982 80,143 82,944

78,982 people are recorded as professing members in NEAC Membership has been decreasing for many years. In 2017, there was a 2.8% decrease from 2016. For the last decade the decrease has ranged between 2.1% and 3.5%.

How many people joined a NEAC church in 2017 by Profession of Faith How many people joined a NEAC church in 2017 by Profession of Faith? Hint: Last year there were 997 975 996 1141

1141 people joined by Profession of Faith in 2017 The number of Professions of Faith increased in 2017 above the 997 recorded in 2016 and 1120 recorded in 2015 but are less than years prior to 2015.

On an average Sunday, how many people are worshipping in the NEAC On an average Sunday, how many people are worshipping in the NEAC? Hint: Last year there were 27,163 26,113 27,161 28,333

The average worship attendance for all NEAC churches totaled 26,113 people. 3.9% decrease is nearly the same % decrease as in 2016 & 2015. In the past 25 years, the only increases were in 1997 and 2001. The largest percentage decrease was 4.2% in 2003.

Rhode Island/ Southeastern Massachusetts Central Metro Boston Hope Which district has the most people attending church on an average Sunday? Rhode Island/ Southeastern Massachusetts Central Massachusetts Metro Boston Hope

RISEM District had the largest total average worship attendance. The district total of average worship attendances ranged from 1,986 in New Hampshire to 3,954 in Rhode Island/Southeastern MA.

Connecticut/ Western Massachusetts Northern Maine Mid Maine Which district had the largest percentage of churches increase their average worship attendance from 2016 to 2017? Connecticut/ Western Massachusetts Northern Maine Mid Maine

An impressive 37% of Northern Maine churches reported an increase in average worship attendance in 2017 compared to 2016. 25% of all churches in NEAC increased worship attendance this year – a similar number compared to the past several years. Districts ranged from 16% to 37% of churches increasing.

How many people in our congregations serve in mission-related/community ministries? Hint: Last year 11,162 people actively served 8,476 10,476 12,476

Another increase! 12,426 persons served in mission-related/community ministries This is a relatively new statistic so it may be that churches are getting used to recording this number. So far, the number has increased every year beginning with 6,626 people in 2013.

What was the conference median “average weekly pledge”? $26 $36 $46

Another increase! The median of all local church average weekly pledges was $36, or $1,872 annually, in 2017. The median in 2016 for the average weekly pledge was $34. Note: Median means that half the churches had an average weekly pledge less than the amount and half the churches had an average higher than that amount.
