LESSON 3: POOR IN SPIRIT

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3 “ptochos” = beggar

What “poor in spirit” IS NOT? NOT a feeling of poor SELF-WORTH which results to feelings of LAW, ESTEEM, PESSIMISM, and feelings of GUILT.

What “poor in spirit” IS? A personal realization of our TOTAL NEED of God in every aspect of our lives. Apart from our daily dependence upon GOD, we are spiritually BANKRUPT!

POOR IN SPIRIT

What “poor in spirit” IS? NOTHINGNESS BEFORE GOD!

What “poor in spirit” INVOLVE? It involves our total need of: C – constant COMMUNION with Christ through: rayer P O W bedience to ord

What “poor in spirit” INVOLVE? It involves our total need of: A – God’s continual ANOINTING for ministry. (Zechariah 4:6)

What “poor in spirit” INVOLVE? It involves our total need of: S – absolutely SURRENDERING to the Lordship of Jesus in all aspects of our lives. (Luke 10:27)

What “poor in spirit” INVOLVE? It involves our total need of: T – continual TRANSFORMATION through the Holy Spirit. (Romans 12:2)

What must we do? CRUCIFYING the flesh. (Galatians 2:20) RENEWING of the mind. (Romans 12:2)

What must we do? Our minds must be re-educated through: HEARING God’s word ENLIGHTENING of the Holy Spirit READING the Word and applying it to your life DECIDING to change one’s attitude and behavior

What must we do? CRUCIFYING the flesh. (Gal. 2:20) RENEWING of the mind. (Romans 12:2) INTERNALIZING a new culture – Kingdom Culture. (2 Corinthians 5:20) SUBMITTING to God’s discipline.

Conclusion “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
