What do you think is going on in this cartoon? Focus Question: How did the American people and government deal with the problems of the Depression? Do Now: What do you think is going on in this cartoon?

FDR & the Supreme Court In the mid-1930s the Supreme Court began to make decisions that cancelled parts of FDR’s New Deal. In response, FDR suggested adding up to 6 new Justices to the 9-member Court. The new appointees would be likely to support FDR’s policies. But because of criticism from the public and members of Congress, FDR did not go through with his plan.
