Using Social Stories

What are social stories? Photos or videos presented in a chronological “story,” that is completely separate form your timeline. Photos/videos posted to stories disappear after 24 hours. Introduced by Snapchat in 2013. Instagram introduced stories in 2016, followed by Facebook stories in 2017. Often raw, not-polished and mostly recorded in real time.

When to use Social Stories Promote upcoming events on campus. Remind students of important dates/information Opportunity for collaboration across departments Student takeovers Build fun/interesting content about day-to-day life on campus.

Benefits of Using Social Stories The ability to reach students directly. Relay time-sensitive information quickly. The ability to generate content quickly without worrying about it being too polished.
