Propaganda and posters In the streets of Britain during WW1 posters overflowed every corner Many soldiers were lied to join WW1 because it seemed exciting and thrilling The posters that did this were very direct and personal. Minimum age for initiation was 18 therefore people faked their age. Some soldiers were as young as 15 years old.

Enlisting in the army adding on to this the propaganda made it possible that by 1914 there was 4 million soldiers enlisted in the army In conclusion Britain’s armies were filled with young men that were deceived by propaganda posters to join what seemed like a “fun” battle

1916 Conscription After 1916 conscription those who could not fight due to moral or religious reasons could do so. Firstly in 1916 a conscription was passed that forced all men between the ages of 18 - 40, who were unmarried and had no children to care for to go to war. This law was passed to increase the number of british troops.

Conscientious Objectors Expectedly many people objected to this and had to go to kind of court to present why they could not fight usually on moral or religious grounds. These people were called conscientious objectors and usually had to do other work such as farming or rescuing wounded soldiers to help fight the war. By the end of the war there were around 16000 of these people. In summary, following the 1916 law many people who thought they could not fight because of moral and religious reasons were able to do other work for the war effort.
