Welcome to the Year 6 SATs Information meeting Wednesday 17th April 2013

What and When ? SATs - Statutory Assessment Tests English and Maths Week beginning 13th May 2013 Standard snapshot of child’s attainment Combines with Teacher Assessment Level 4 is the expectation for most children Teacher assessment is essential part of NC assessment and reporting and is carried out throughout the year over lots of pieces of work-part of everyday teaching and learning Evidence from different contexts In English, TA includes speaking & listening-equal weighting for these (writing elements combined) In maths, using & applying maths x2, number & algebra x5, shape, space, measuresx2, data handlingx1 Tests are a snapshot of performance on the day Whilst important, they don’t give the whole picture Also, don’t show how well a child is doing against their potential, or progress made School uses wide range of data and tracking throughout a child’s time in school which gives us this evidence Whilst SATS v important, need to balance that against this context So, in school, prepare children and stress importance but not put undue pressure on-not a qualification, is only 1 piece of information that high schools want and will use Positive attitude rather than trauma Levels-all children different and different abilities, level 4 being the expectation for most children. Tests are pitched at this level. Pupils working below this level do not sit tests as it is not aimed at their ability If a child is absent, they are given an automatic L3
