Cities take over privately owned utilities Cities, instead of privately owned businesses, run water, gas and electric utilities

Welfare Services Mayors increase services such as public baths, playgrounds and work relief.

Hull House (Jane Addams) Provided services in the cities for the poor such as daycare, jobs, healthcare and clubs.

Congress is able to levy on income tax 16th Amendment (1913) Congress is able to levy on income tax

Senators will be directly elected by the people. 17th Amendment (1913) Senators will be directly elected by the people.

Prohibition – outlaws the manufacturing and sale of alcohol. 18 Amendment (1919) Prohibition – outlaws the manufacturing and sale of alcohol.
