How to Create Essay Thesis Statement Main idea– Literary Elements-Devices/Topic (choose 1-3) Essay Question – The question you create based on what you already know about your author and her work. Thesis- Your answer to the question that you create. May be 1-2 sentences.

Example Main Idea – characterization/plot Essay Question – How does Chopin use an extensive vocabulary and irony to further her plot and character development? Thesis - Kate Chopin demonstrates her incredible literary talent in “The Story of an Hour” by interconnecting the plot and character development, with her use of thought-provoking vocabulary and narrative irony. -Melanie Price
