History of Printmaking Printmaking began in China after paper was invented in about 105 A.D. Since the invention of the Printing Press, printmaking has been an inexpensive and effective way for artists to make a living… it gave rise to the first “commercial artists.”

Printmaking Definition: a group of mechanically aided two-dimensional processes that permit the production of multiple original artworks. Relief Printmaking Intaglio Printmaking Screen Printmaking Lithography

Printmaking Relief printmaking: Ink is applied to the plate and the relief parts of the plate produce the image.

Linoleum Block Printing Printmaking

Printmaking is… A type of art that uses an inked block or plate to print an image. This allows multiple printings, unlike drawing or painting.

Your project is to carve a linoleum block

What does a linoleum cut look like? Lino cuts have simple lines They are carved with sharp tools called ‘gouges’ They print backwards – this is due to the printing process

Printmaking

STENCIL: Serigraphy A stencil is fastened to a sheet of silk which is tightly stretched across a wooden frame. The frame is placed against the material to be printed. A squeegee is used to push the ink through the open areas onto the material or paper below.
