ASSURANCE OF SALVATION SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES LESSON 700: ASSURANCE OF SALVATION
RECAP OF OUR LAST STUDY From our last study, entitled “Adoption and sonship through Christ”, we learnt that God sent Jesus to redeem us so we can be adopted into His family by faith. Those who repent of their sins, forsake rituals and exercise faith in Christ will be saved and adopted into the family of God as His sons and daughters.
TODAY’S STUDY: LESSON 700: ASSURANCE OF SALVATION MEMORY VERSE: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved?” (Romans 10:9). TEXT: Matthew 1:21; Romans 10:8-13; Ephesians 2:8,9.
SUMMARY The foundation of Christian experiences (I Corinthians 3:11; II Timothy 2:19): Salvation is the ground on which all other Christian experiences stand. It is the gateway into God’s Kingdom and the door to other divine blessings. The meaning of salvation (Matthew 1:21; Titus 2:11-14): Salvation is forgiveness of, and freedom from sin, leading to peace with God. Necessity of faith to salvation (Ephesians 2:8,9; Romans 10:9-13): To be saved, one must believe on Jesus as Saviour from sin. It is not how one feels but what God says. Faith leads to forsaking sin and calling on the Lord. Assurance of salvation (Romans 10:8,9; I John 3:10,14): Our assurance rests on God’s word, a changed life and and the witness of the Spirit. Fruits of salvation (II Corinthians 5:17; I John 3:9): Salvation sets us free from all sin and makes us loving, joyful, peaceful, gentle, etc. Danger of neglecting salvation (Hebrews 2:2,3; 10:28,29): To neglect salvation or return to sinning is to deliberately choose perdition in hell.

CONCLUSION God has given us salvation through the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary. Faith in His Sacrifice will make one to call upon His name and get delivered from sin. Our assurance of salvation is based on God’s promise, the witness of the Spirit and the testimony of a new life. To continue in, or go back to sin, is to deliberately choose to perish in the eternal lake of fire!
