Presentation transcript:

From Korea!! This is Gangnam, one of the richest districts in Korea. I took this picture of the old and new worlds coexisting in Korea.  Christmas trees are everywhere in Korea, however this is about the extent of the decorations…which is reflected in the cards.

5th Graders Making Cards Koreans typically use crayons and makers to decorate instead of colored pencils. It’s also winter over here (high of 50 and Low of 31 F), so the students wear their coats inside.

Korean Culture Taekwondo = Korean Martial Art (He is in 5th grade) Kimchi = pickled cabbage “Nice to meet you” is what they typically say when they meet someone new, so they wrote it in the cards. No candy canes in Korea Interesting coloring The video is this student doing one of the most difficult kicks in Taekwondo. Kimchi is eaten at every meal.

Best Cards There are no set colors for the holiday season. Hearts are kind of like stars in America. They mean a positive feeling and are everywhere .

Some students even them home Korea has some of the fastest internet in the world, and has 4G for the phones everywhere as well. Therefore it’s common for even first graders to senior citizens to have a smart phone. All of the students have their own phone, and ~80% of them have smart phones. Since they are just beginning to learn English they wrote “I want to meet you” instead of “It’s cool that we get to send holiday cards.”

359 cards to… 4 schools 2 Taekwondo schools 4 families

Sending the package on 12/5~ We look forward to receiving your cards ^_^
