Democratic Party By: Katie Lundy, Kaitlyn Downey, Emily Wood, Destiny Ritter, Alivia Watko

Party type The Democratic party is one of the two major parties of the United States

The History of the Democratic Party The Democratic party was formed in 1792, after supporters of Thomas Jefferson began using the name Jeffersonian Republicans to promote its anti- aristocratic parties. In the 1830’s during the Presidency of Andrew Jackson, the present name of this party was created. The Democratic party positioned itself to the left of the Republican party in social and economic matters. In 1920, when Democratic President Woodrow Wilson was in office, the U.S. Constitution was amended to grant women the right to vote. In 1935 Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was also a Democratic President, advocated for federal assistance for the elderly which was opposed by Republican legislators.

Elected officials in Michigan States Senate from 2015 to 2021, Gary Peters From county commissioner, representatives, and state senate from 1975 to 2007 Debbie Stabenow. Genesee county board of commissioners, Genesee county treasurer from 1985 to 2009 Daniel T.Kildee.

Abortion The Democratic party stands behind the right of every women to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade, and regardless of ability to pay. In January of 1973, the U.S. supreme court handed down its landmark decision in the case of Roe v. Wade , which recognized that the constitutional right to privacy extends to women's right to make her own personal medical decisions. Including the decision to have an abortion without interference from politicians. “ I will defend a woman’s right to choose. And I will defend Planned Parenthood” -Hillary Clinton

Immigration The democrats supports immigration but believes that there should be something that upholds the United States basic principles which are to secure the borders, protect the workers, unite families, and offer hardworking immigrants an earned pathway to earned citizenship. According to the Congressional Budget Office, immigration reform would decrease the federal deficit by around $900 billion. Hillary clinton believes that fixing the immigration system will help small businesses expand, foster innovation, increase productivity, raise wages and create thousands of jobs in every district.

Guns The Democratic Party believes that there is an individual right to bear arms and that it's important to preserve America's second amendment. But it is subject to reasonable regulation. They want to get the guns out of the hands of people that shouldn't have them like terrorists and criminals.

Hillary Clinton Born on October 26th, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. Attended Yale Law School First woman elected to the New York senate. She married Bill Clinton in 1975, and had a daughter named Chelsea in 1980. She was both a senator and first lady for 20 days, sworn on January 1, 2001 for the senator and Bill left the White House on the 20th.

Color Although both of the major political parties along with many of the minor ones use the traditional American colors of Red, White, and Blue in their marketing and representations, since the election night in 2000, the color Blue has been the identifying color of the Democratic Party.
