Presentation transcript:

Cell Theory Vocabulary Cell-the basic unit of all living organisms. (discovered by Robert Hooke) Cell theory-All things are made of cells. Cells come from pre-existing cells.

Cell Theory Vocabulary Animal cell-Eukaryote that reproduces and divides (mitosis) Plant cell-Eukaryote that has chloroplasts and cell wall Organelle-cell parts (example: nucleus, vacoule, ribasomes, etc;)

Cell Theory Vocabulary Nucleus-the brain of the cell (contains DNA- the “monk”) Mitochondria-gives cell energy

Cell Theory Vocabulary Ribosome’s-make proteins from amino acids inside of the cell (can be on the ER- the “chefs”) Cytoplasm-cell “soup”; contains the organelles

Cell Theory Vocabulary Cell respiration-cells giving off oxygen or carbon dioxide (ATP energy is created through this process- that energy keeps the cells moving and us alive ! ) Cell mitosis- cell division (cells making new cells)
