When I Have Fears That I May Cease to Be By: John Keats

Basis Synopsis He talks about his fear of dying young He is scared that he will never fulfill himself as a writer He scared that he will lose his beloved

Theme Theme is death, but he doesn't seem at peace with death, but he fears death.

What does the speakers fear cause? It causes him not to achieve love and fame in is short time on earth.

To what are great books compared? “Before high piled books, in charactery, Hold like rich garners the full ripened grain;...” He is saying that before he dies, he has written a lot of books and he compares his writing to grains of wheat. They’re the natural product of a fruitful earth, which in this case would be his brain.
