I am David By Anne Holm

Summary: chapter 1 “The man” told David that the electric fence would be switched off for 30 seconds to enable him to escape. There would be a compass and water outside the fence. David found a compass, water, bread, matches and a pocket knife. Took some of the shepherds’ soup and bread.

David got a lift to Salonica in the back of a van. He remembered his friend, Johannes, and it seemed as if Johannes was with him. David found a ship bound for Italy. David stayed alive by drinking his water and wine he found on the ship.

A sailor found him, but helped him escape overboard with a lifebelt. When he reached the shore, David climbed a hill where he spent the night. When he awoke, he was amazed by the beauty of the scenery that he saw before him. David realised that he really wanted to live.
