Chapter 11 Sensory & Nervous System Objectives

The sensory system makes us aware of what is happening in and around us. Our sense organs provide us with information about our surroundings.

Responding to a Stimulus Pouring a cup of tea – the eye detects that the cup is almost full of tea (stimulus) – message is sent along a nerve from the eye to the brain – brain decides to stop pouring the tea- brain sends message along another nerve down the spinal cord and out to the muscles in the arm or hand – we respond by raising the teapot away from the cup.
