Campus Climate Survey Four separate surveys: Student, staff, faculty, and administrators Started October 26, 2010 Ended December 22, 2010 Report to CCC in February 2011

Staff Survey Most Disappointing Findings Work issues dominated the most disappointing finding for staff members. They responded that there were not opportunities for advancement in their department at SJSU, resources for training were inadequate, salaries were not equitable, and overtime was an issue.

Staff Survey Most Promising Trends Staff members responded that that diversity was much more a part of the SJSU environment now than in 2006. They responded that that SJSU celebrates and promotes diversity, differences of opinion are regularly aired, and there is an appreciation for multicultural society on campus.

Staff Survey Most Disappointing Trends Staff members responded that some things declined from 2006 to 2010. Among them was the amount of resources used for training, physical safety on campus, and respect by their supervisor.

Faculty Survey In regards to campus climate, faculty members felt that minorities were not being represented in the ranks of the faculty, staff, and administration. They were dissatisfied with campus administrative leadership. Specifically, they were dissatisfied with the grievance system, evaluation process, reexamination of curriculum, and shared governance.

Administrators Survey Most promising findings. Administrators responded overwhelmingly that SJSU students should be taught to bring a positive change to society and should develop leadership skills. They also felt developing a multicultural community at SJSU is a major goal.

Administrators Survey Most disappointing findings. Some of the most disappointing findings dealt with the administrators’ work environment. Administrators responded that they were being pressured to work longer hours and there was little room for advancement.

Administrators Survey Most promising trend. Even though it was a disappointing finding in 2010, administrators reported less pressure to put in overtime now than in 2006. Administrators responded that that SJSU was more welcoming now than in 2006.

Administrators Survey Most disappointing trend. Work conditions seemed to get worse for administrators between 2006 and 2010. They responded that there was less opportunity for advancement, less challenge to their position, less professional development, and SJSU was not a good place to work.
