Warriors Walk Warriors Walk Honors Soldiers Killed in Action during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). This walkway is dedicated to the Soldiers and attached units of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield. For decades, many brave Soldiers have marched here prior to going to battle and this is where they are welcomed when they return home. It is this field where warriors walk. And it is here on this walkway that we remember our courageous soldiers who demonstrated exceptional valor, honor and respect for their Army, their Country and their belief in their cause. The Eastern Redbud Tree was selected to represent the life of each fallen hero, as these trees bloom each April in Georgia, approximately the same time as the first casualties were reported from the Division’s theater of operations. The eastern Redbud Tree should mature and become approximately 20 feet tall and 25-30 foot wide, making a canopy over the sidewalk based on the spacing of the tree’s along the walk.   Since it’s inception and first ceremony in April 2003 there have been over 400 Tree’s placed at Warriors Walk to Honor the Fallen Soldiers, ranging in Rank from Colonel to Private. If time permits while visiting Ft. Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield it would be a worthwhile location to visit, take a stroll through Warriors Walk look at the markers and names and reflect on what these Americans have done to afford us our Freedoms today. Located around Cottrell Field at the corner of 6th Street and Gulick Avenue.
