Types of editing Terms you need to know! Continuity editing Editing that emphasises a smooth transition between shots and scenes so the process to do not appear noticeable to the audience. Impact? Non-continuity editing Editing that attempts to draw attention to itself by linking shots that are not seamlessly joined together for example using juxtaposition and montage. Impact?

Types of editing Shot/reverse shot This is an editing pattern that cuts to the view in the opposite direction. It is most commonly used in dialogue, cutting from one speaker to the other. Impact? Indicates the relationship between two characters: it signifies and sometime exaggerates their closeness – or their opposition (depending on the context).

Jump cut A jump cut is where a few frames have been removed from a continuous action, giving a jerky, unnaturalistic feel to the presentation of the action. Impact?

Cutaway A cut from the main action to a piece of related action somewhere else or just outside the frame. Impact?

Action Match or Match on Action This is part of continuity editing where a shot of a character making an action is followed by a cut to a shot of the next logical action. It allows action to flow smoothly between shots. Impact?

Crosscutting Crosscutting is the linking of two sets of action that are running concurrently and are interdependent with the narrative often in order to build suspense. Impact?
