Carrying capacity and Limiting Factors This refers to the maximum number of organisms that a given area can support based upon a number of factors. Carrying capacity can change with availability of resources (or lack thereof). Carrying capacity can be for an individual species or for an entire community. These are resources for which organisms complete. Their availability determines carrying capacity. Examples: Food, water, space.
