What is the idea of Manifest Destiny? The US is destined to conquer all land in North America. The US is destined to stretch from Atlantic to Pacific. The US is destined to become the most powerful nation on earth. The US is destined to be the peace keeping nation of the world.

What does this map show?

This painting was completed circa 1845 by George Caleb Bingham (1811–1879), a famous American painter. In 1845, Bingham journeyed west and painted scenes of frontier life along the rivers. His paintings featured not only the landscape, but the people: bargemen, fur traders, and pioneers.
