Out of State Applicants If an educator applies with a recommendation, they must submit passing scores on all required TN Praxis tests, including the PLT or edTPA. If they apply based on a license, the license must be continuously renewable, similar to our professional level. Content exams must be passed prior to renewing or advancing the license. Out of state applicants are notified via email of additional requirements that must be met after initial licensure issuance. Educators and districts can view if educators have passing Praxis scores on file.

Beginning Jan. 2018, educators who hold an Instructional Leader License but are not in a TASL-mandated position will be required to complete a state-approved module to renew their license
License Conversion Overview Conversion guidance on our website for active and inactive licenses Convert Apprentice to Practitioner Educators who do not meet advancement requirements will complete the renewal transaction in TNCompass, and their license will be converted to a practitioner (second issuance) license. BALs must be converted to ILL-Bs
Additional Information - Licensure Experience Experience is recorded in TNCompass from PIRS. Not all experience an educator has on file qualifies for licensure advancement (e.g. experience as a paraprofessional or experience outside the validity period of the license). Managing Deficiencies TNCompass work queue can be sorted by deficiencies. OELP is working on building a report that will include deficiencies and contact information for educators.
PDP Updates
PDP Updates Educators can receive PDPs even when they are being paid to attend an event. PDPs can be part of their required 30 hours of in-service, only if the are aimed at improving their educator effectiveness. Educators who present at staff development can’t use their presentations to earn PDPs.
