Do Now: Complete the exam question. Self assess using the mark scheme in the folder. Use red pen. Marks clearly on the front. Glue into your books. Log on: Go to: Computer → Media Drive → Science → Mr Marrill → anaerobic respiration Open the powerpoint “Anaerobic respiration ICT Lesson” Instructions on slide 3

Fermentation and Anaerobic Respiration To be able to: Fermentation: Describe the process of alcoholic fermentation in yeast. Give the chemical equation, words and formulae. Explain some of the uses of alcoholic fermentation. Anaerobic respiration: Describe the process of anaerobic respiration in humans. List the differences between aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Explain why anaerobic respiration is less efficient than aerobic respiration. Define the term oxygen debt. Write the equation for the Breakdown of lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water.

Instructions Complete each slide of the powerpoint. The red box has the learning outcome in it. This is what you must show that you understand by adding information to the slide. The questions on the slide already point you in the right direction to achieve the outcome. This work is due to be handed in on Thursday 19th. Complete for homework if necessary. Answer the exam question for homework also due on Thursday 19th we will self assess as your starter. Manage your time effectively there is a lot to cover in the lesson.

Yeast con respire both aerobically and anaerobically. Describe the process of alcoholic fermentation in yeast. Yeast con respire both aerobically and anaerobically. Describe a yeast cell. Include information about the organelles in a yeast Compare the structure of a yeast cell to that of an animal, plant and bacterial cell (a table would be good here). Include a picture of a yeast cell.

Anaerobic respiration in yeast. Give the chemical equation, words and formulae. State the word equation for respiration in yeast. Give the formulae equation, make sure it’s balanced.

Products of fermentation Explain some of the uses of alcoholic fermentation The alcohol that is produced from fermentation is used for many things. Recap C1 knowledge by describing how bioethanol is produced. State some of the other uses of the ethanol produced from fermentation. Give examples and include pictures. You will need at least three examples.

Where does anaerobic respiration happen? Include diagrams. Describe the process of anaerobic respiration in humans Where does anaerobic respiration happen? Think cellular level. Include diagrams.

A table to explain the differences. List the differences between aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Explain why anaerobic respiration is less efficient than aerobic respiration. A table to explain the differences. Why is anaerobic respiration less efficient? Think about the amount of ATP generated.

Define the term oxygen debt. Write the equation for the Breakdown of lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water. What is oxygen debt. How do we build up oxygen debt and how is it repaid? Write the equations (word and balanced symbol) for the breakdown of lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water.
