What happens to your heart rate when you exercise? Why? Homework: read, annotate, and answer analysis questions Turn in: Signed progress reports to the box!

What happens to your heart rate when you exercise?

Why does your heart rate increase when you exercise?

Why does your heart rate increase when you exercise? Your heart is pumping faster Your heart is pumping blood The blood is carrying oxygen The oxygen is needed in your cells (in the mitochondria) to create energy in the form of ATP This process is called cellular respiration

Cellular Respiration Notes

Aerobic vs. Anaerobic Aerobic: happens in cytoplasm and mitochondria, creates a maximum of 38 ATP, requires oxygen Anaerobic: happens in cytoplasm only, creates a maximum of 2 ATP, does NOT require oxygen Read and annotate the article on anaerobic respiration and answer the analysis questions that follow

Cellular Respiration Haikus On a separate sheet of paper, write your own Haiku that compares and contrasts anaerobic and aerobic respiration You can write big and in marker so I can hang them up  Attempt to include as many scientific details as you can, but feel free to be creative A haiku is 5-7-5

Exit Ticket 1. Create a Venn diagram that compares and contrast aerobic and anaerobic respiration 2. Write the overall formula for aerobic cellular respiration and explain where each reactant comes from and where it goes during the process
