What is Team Handball? Team handball is a team sport, where the teams attempt to pass a ball to each other and to throw it into the opposition’s goal.

Origins of Team Handball The origins of the game are in fact likely to date from ancient Greek and Roman times In the 19th century, there were many similar games to handball being played in various parts of Europe, from haandbold in Denmark to gandbol in Ukraine. Denmark is widely thought to be the birthplace of modern handball Men’s team handball made its Olympic debut at the 1972 Olympics in Munich Women’s team handball was later added in 1976 at the Montreal Games.

Rules 7 v 7, & 1 goal keeper Girls vs Girls/Boys vs Boys (similar to floor hockey) The object of the game is to throw the ball past the goalkeeper into the opponent’s goal. Players advance the ball for up to 1 step and hold the ball without moving for 3 seconds Players are NOT allowed to pull, hit, or punch the ball out of the opponent’s hands. No DRIBBLING

Playing the Ball Play is initiated by a JUMP BALL at midcourt. After each sore, the opposing teams goalie will throw the ball back into play without stopping the game The ball MUST touch 3 players from the same team before they can attempt a throw at the goal A shot must be behind the thick blue line on the court

Defending the Opponent Defensive players are allowed to use their body to obstruct an opponent either with or without the ball. Pushing, holding, tripping and/or hitting is a violation and a FREE THROW is awarded
