INTELLIGENT SCHEDULING BENEFITS Aurora Intelligent Scheduling by Stottler Henke Associates, Inc. VIEW IN SLIDE SHOW MODE

SCHEDULING ISN'T ROCKET SCIENCE It’s harder

SCHEDULING ENGINE COMPARISON: GANTT CHART Unlimited Resource Critical Path Resource Limited Critical Path Aurora Slide shows the resource-constrained critical path of the SAME project, but the shortest path (white boxes) shows the critical path when there are unlimited resources. The blue boxes shows the resource-constrained critical path when the resources are modeled and resource leveled, The orange boxes shows the EXACT SAME project with the exact same resources but using intelligent scheduling with Aurora. NOTE that there are many more tasks in the model, but only the longest chain is shown in each case so it can be visualized. Resource Limited Critical Path Microsoft Project

EXAMPLES FROM LITERATURE (Kastor & Sirakoulis, 2009) 1ST Example 2nd Example Product Resource Unlimited Duration (days) Resource Loaded Duration Increase From Primavera P6 464 709 53% 238 308 29% MS Project 744 60% 314 32% This slide shows that there are many examples in the literature that show the effect of using different scheduling algorithms on the final duration of the schedule.

CONSTRAINTS ADD COMPLEXITY Technical constraints (E.g., F-S, F-F, S-F, lags) Resource constraints Labor constraints Equipment, Tools (e.g., cranes) Usage constraints – e.g., tool can only be used for so many hours continuously &/or during a day. Spatial / physical space constraints – e.g., job requires a certain location or type of space two elements should (or should not) be next to each other Ergonomic constraints – individual limitations on work conditions

MS PROJECT RESULTS (BEGINNING OF ANIMATION) VS. AURORA RESULTS (END) The animation shows the transition of the Gantt chart from Microsoft Project, with a histogram of one of the resources, to the gantt chart from Aurora with a histogram of the the same resource. The Aurora results are significantly shorter and the histogram is much flatter. So a better schedule in every aspect.
