5 Themes of Geography 1. Location- tells where a place actually is Example: the country of Israel is on the southeast of the Mediterranean sea
2. Region- countries that have features/characteristics in common Features/Characteristics that can make up a region: climate, landforms, vegetation, animal life…etc. Example of a region: Egypt and Libya. They share a common climate of desert
3. Place- an area’s distinguishing characteristics 3. Place- an area’s distinguishing characteristics. What makes that place the way it is.
4. Movement- study of the migrations of people and animals. Migrate(migrations)- moving from one place to another Immigrate( immigrations)- move to a new country with the formality of using an embassy.
Movement (Continued…) Push Factor- things/reasons that make you leave a country Example: War Pull Factor- things/reasons that draw you to a new country Example: lots of good jobs
5. Human Environment Interaction: how people change and deal with their environment Example: needing to cross a river, so building a bridge
