Calendar Overview September 25: Parent Night Sept 22/25: End of first grading period - Congratulations! September 28 & 29: Class Visits Guidance Counselor classroom presentations. Students receive transcript and complete Naviance career exploration activity. Nov 2/3: End of second grading period Dec 22: End of first semester. Final Exams Dec 20, 21, & 22

Must earn a D- or better to earn credit Graduation Requirements 1) Earn 220 Credits 2) Pass Subjects Required History 30 credits or 3 years English 40 credits or 4 years P.E 20 credits or 2 years Math Science 20: 1 year Biological 1 year Physical Lang. other than English 20 credits (same language) Visual and Performing Art 10 credits or 1 year College Prep Elective Career Technical Education 10 credits or 1 year; unless 20 credits of VAPA have been earned General Elective 30 credits Must earn a D- or better to earn credit 8

Important Academic Facts A minimum of a “D-” is required to earn credits towards graduation. A passed class earns 5 credits each semester & 10 credits for the year. 4 year colleges require a minimum of “C”, for A-G classes. Failed classes earn no credits, but are calculated in the GPA as a Zero and remain on the transcript. Credits earned outside Prospect only go on the transcript if needed to graduate (i.e.; community college…)

Credit Recovery What are the options for recovering credit needed to graduate? What if I earn a D or an F? It may be possible to “VALIDATE” the grade for college eligibility requirements. Validation applies ONLY to classes in mathematics and Languages other than English only. Testing Timeline Sophomore year: Junior year: Senior year: Take PSAT 10 in Spring 2018. Junior year: PSAT in October for National Merit Scholarships. SAT Reasoning Test/ACT: Spring 2019. AP tests in May 2019. SAT Subject tests in June. Senior year: SAT/ACT- in Fall 2019 if you need to improve your scores. Re-take SAT Subject tests if you would like to improve. AP tests in May 2020.

Contact Mr. Chang, CSF Advisor What is CSF? CSF motto is "Scholarship through Service“ www.csf-cjsf.org California Scholarship Federation (CSF) emphasizes high standards of service, scholarship, and citizenship for California high school students. CSF Membership is based on scholarship and is gained after qualifying grades are earned each semester. In order to become a member, the student must submit an application each semester the student is eligible. A point system specified in the CJSF State By-Laws establishes the membership requirements.
