How you can help your child Please do not: Say you can’t help because you are ‘bad at math’. If you believe it, they will too. Immediately tell your child the answer or solution if you know it. Instead: Tell them you can work together and encourage them to explain how they reasoned through each problem. Let them explain how they thought to do the problem. Ask them questions to help guide them to the correct solutions. How you can help your child “Uh yeah, Homework Help Line? I need to have you explain the quadratic equation in roughly the amount of time it takes to get a cup of coffee.”
