Graded Rubric ExcellentGoodFair Needs Work Context Purpose: perceptive definition of central question, visual & verbal; scope is narrow, question consistent throughout x Substance Development: sufficient summary & insight; slides focused & yet fully developed; mix of verbal & visual information x Sources: appropriate for topic, pertinent in placement, cited as necessary; quotations & data introduced correctly x Organization Thesis: a thesis, early or late, that clearly states both sides of question & its mediation x Introduction and Conclusion: overview of organization given at the beginning; conclusion sums up key points x Relationship: relationship of ideas clear; coherent; visual cues guide us through presentation x Style Visual Style: clear & to-the-point text on-screen; same for data on-screen; the verbal component fits the visual x Verbal & Sonic elements: engaging presence, name given, neither too colloquial nor too formal; no mumbling; any other use of sound (music, video) fitting x Conventions & Correctness free from data errors free from word errors (SP, etc.) x Response Team Response: Questions in class & written responses demonstrate understanding; response helps enhance presentation (rated Excellent, Good, or Fair.) x Name & Section : Bunch, RN Overall Comments: Actually, in this medium your mediation comes in at about the same level of quality as it did on paper. Here, nearly all the slides lack visuals, & that sameness bothered the response team too, as you see in the report below. Also, the YouTube video may be lively, but its not such a useful piece of research, since its played for comedy; its in no way a substantial complaint about the lunch policy. Then too, at the end the Mediation & Conclusion slides overlap somewhat. Still, a lot of good understanding here, & a logical argument. B+

Response Team Essay John Vandercar, Paul Tong, Ian Baer English 250 Section RN Prof. Domini April 20, 2013 Mediation Response: Shelby Bunch Shelbys mediation presentation dealt with the topic of Michelle Obamas school nutrition plan and the problems it has created in the community. Visually, the PowerPoint is very text heavy. With only two pictures across eight slides of information, a better balance of images and text would greatly help the presentation be more visually stimulating, (Vandercar). The text in the presentation is well organized, although, a lot of things were read directly off the slides, particularly slide 3. The sentences should be better notated, (Tong). The voiceover on the PowerPoint clearly explains the mediation, spoken calmly and paced well. The voiceover has random pauses in speech and a few words are stumbled over. Overall it is done well, but has some noticeable errors, (Vandercar). Facts used throughout the PowerPoint supplement the argument and are relevant. Presents a wide array of facts on the issue, (Baer). Logically, her mediation is based off research and makes sense, (Baer). There was good usage of personal example in slide 5, concerning her personal need of calories to be able to make it through the physical activity involved in her day, (Tong). Overall, the mediation is done well, where the greatest fallbacks to this presentation is that it is not very visually appealing, and some noticeable stumbles in the voiceover.
