Bell Work Wednesday, January 31, 2018 Read “Focus on Geography” on page 138 in the textbook. Answer the following questions: 1.) What purpose did the rectangular land survey system serve? 2.) How do the modern landscapes of states in the Midwest such as Indiana and Ohio, reflect the system established by the Land Ordinance of 1785? 1.) provide an orderly system of development for the Northwest Territory 2.) the rectangular grid established in 1785 remains visible in landscapes across the Midwest today.

Farmers couldn’t pay the high taxes imposed by Massachusetts Daniel Shays—1787 led 1000 farmers to seize weapons from the Springfield Armory and again attempted to shut down the courts State raises an army, to suppress what became known as Shays’ Rebellion

No common currency, no levying of taxes, no money for federal government, could not regulate interstate commerce and foreign trade, Each state had only one vote in congress, regardless of it’s size. 2/3 majority required to pass laws (9/13 states), amendments only with consent of ALL states, No separate executive branch to enforce acts of congress.
