My Website

“My” VISION Nearly everything we do in Pre-AP World can be found on VISION

Pre-AP WORLD HISTORY Curriculum – Designed as a survey course to prepare students for the rigor of AP World History. Covers the period from Prehistory to c. 1500 Attempts to balance European history with coverage of the world’s other major empires and cultures Emphasizes analytical reading and effective essay writing

WORK LOAD Pre-AP World History requires: Reading and outlining almost every night from the textbook Reading comprehension assessments (formative quizzes) Taking exams consisting of multiple-choice questions and at least 1 writing assessment – Short Answer Questions (SAQs), Long Essay Questions (LEQs), or Document Based Questions (DBQs)

ASSESSMENTS Formative (20%) (Daily Participation, Closures, Homework, Chapter Reading Quizzes, and other assignments designed to help students learn the information) Summative (80%) (Summative Quizzes, Exams, Short Answer Questions, Essays, and Projects)

EXPECTATIONS The student will complete all assignments The student will be ready to participate in class and will participate responsibly The student will advocate for him/herself The student will make up all assessments and missing work in a reasonable amount of time (before the exam on that material!!!!!)

Pre-AP WORLD HISTORY The Student View: It’s so hard! There is so much reading and more homework than EVER before! Mr. Sakole is such a hard grader! I am going to fail! I have no time to SnapChat, Skype, Facebook, Tweet, or shoot zombies!

Pre-AP WORLD HISTORY The Parent View My son/daughter is spending a lot of time on Pre-AP World History. My son/daughter is very stressed out over his/her grade in Pre-AP. My son/daughter tells me Mr. Sakole is an REALLY hard grader. Will my son/daughter be ready to take an AP course as a sophomore next year?

Pre-AP WORLD HISTORY The Teacher View I have to help students make the transition from middle school to high school, prepare them for an AP class as sophomores, AND get them ready for the SOL test in 8 months! The kids knew that this class would be more difficult when they signed up for Pre-AP. If parents would just support their kids a little more, the students would be so much more successful. If I have to grade one more poorly written essay, I might scream!

Pre-AP WORLD HISTORY The Realistic View: Pre-AP World History is Harder than previous courses. Does require a larger amount of time outside of class than students have previously experienced. Can cause stress because the assessments (tests and quizzes) are more difficult. 99% of the students get through all of this and end up enjoying the class and feeling better prepared by their experience.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS What more can I tell you about me or the Pre-AP World History Class? If you would like to ask a question or make a comment specific to your child, please feel free to email me at a later time!
