DEMOCRACY A government run by the people Citizens participate by voting, high rights and liberties

Right Something a person is allowed to do and is protected by the law We have an entire BILL of RIGHTS in the United States! What are some rights you think we have as Americans?

RIGHTS of American Citizens Freedom to express yourself. Freedom to worship as you wish. Right to a prompt, fair trial by jury. Right to vote in elections for public officials. Right to apply for federal employment requiring U.S. citizenship. Right to run for elected office. Freedom to pursue “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Responsibility Something a person should do for their country Can you think of some responsibilities we have as Americans?

RESPONSIBILITIES of American Citizens Support and defend the Constitution. Stay informed of the issues affecting your community. Participate in the democratic process. Respect and obey federal, state, and local laws. Respect the rights, beliefs, and opinions of others. Participate in your local community. Pay income and other taxes honestly, and on time, to federal, state, and local authorities. Serve on a jury when called upon. Defend the country if the need should arise.

MONARCHY

Monarchy A government run by a king or queen Citizens have fewer rights

Inherited (power) Power is gained by birth rights (being born into the royal family)

Constitutional Monarchy A government led by a Prime Minister, with a King or Queen as historical figure; citizens have high level of rights

ROYAL FAMILY; Who are you people? Do you know any of the royal family members? OR do you know any of the recent royal family events?

DICTATORSHIP

Dictatorship A harsh (cruel/mean) government run by a dictator; the citizens have few/no rights

Dictator Leader of a dictatorship having total control He seizes (takes over) power and is harsh (mean)

Seize (power) To take control by FORCE

Theocracy Form of government based on religion Religion drives decisions
