Hitting and Educational Theories By Scott Bruno

Scaffolding Changing level of support for learning Instructor will adjust amount of guidance to fit the student’s performance

Observational Learning Learning that involves acquiring skills, strategies, and beliefs by observing others Four Steps- Attention Retention Production Motivation

Attention Before students can produce a model’s actions, they must attend to what the model is doing or saying. People who are warm, powerful, atypical people, are those who command more power

Retention To reproduce a model’s actions, students must code the information and keep it in memory so that they retrieve it. A players’ retention will be improved when coach’s give vivid, logical, and clear demonstrations.

Production It will be harder for a a young child to reproduce these actions because of a lack of motor ability and understanding. It will also be harder for a person who has never practiced this motion before to do it correctly the first time as opposed to someone who has practiced it

Motivation Almost everyone is capable of the first three steps of observational learning however lack this motivation. Teachers often award students with prizes and award for their motivation.

Swinging a Bat Observational Learning and scaffolding are used at every practice Higher levels involves less help
