Vicki Stokes School of Education 19/09/17 Welcome to Vicki Stokes School of Education 19/09/17

Aims of the Science sessions… To help you to develop into enthusiastic and knowledgeable primary science teachers!

Your own experience of science? Share with the person next to you… What have you learned in science? How did you learn in science? How was it taught? Why did you learn science? What is your attitude towards science?

YOUR FIRST SCIENCE TASK! DRAW A SCIENTIST! WHY? British Science Association

The Primary Science Curriculum The National Curriculum for Primary schools was recently reviewed and there were significant changes made within science. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-curriculum-in-england-science-programmes-of-study https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/596629/EYFS_STATUTORY_FRAMEWORK_2017.pdf

This week’s task: Familiarise yourself with the structure and content of science within the National Curriculum and EYFS. There are many resources in the library which will enable you to develop your subject knowledge. The following are suggested places to start (both are ebooks): Loxley, P. et al (2013) Teaching Primary Science: promoting enjoyment and developing understanding. (2nd Edition). Routledge Cross, A. & Bowden, A. (2009) Essential Primary Science. Open University Press.
