Magic Island Text p. 137 IN p. 114 Answer the following reading questions in full sentences: In lines 1-12, identify the dimile that takes place and explain what is being compared. Describe the park’s setting. Identify the metaphor in lines 35-36. What is being compared? Identify the similes in lines 38-48. For each, explain what is being compared. Why is the story called “Magic Island”? List words/phrases that help you explain your response.

Magic Island: Analyzing the Text Text p. 129 IN p. 115 Answer the following questions in full sentences: Analyze: Review lines 1-32. What images are the most striking? What mood, or feeling, do these images create? Interpret: Beginning in line 46, Song writes of “a black umbrella, / blooming like an ancient flower.” What does the umbrella symbolize, or represent?
