How to approach the project Apply your essay’s thesis statement to works of art: The use of Light & dark Prejudice/Discrimination The American Dream Effects of loneliness The poster is there to enhance your oral presentation Supports what you are saying with interesting and relevant visuals Draws and generates interest

So, what do you do ??? Don’t Do Ignore the class by staring at your poster and/or teacher Explain your ideas to the class. Make eye contact with them as you present. Bore us by reading from the poster or summarizing your essay Glance at your note cards and practice what you are going to say so that your presentation of ideas is smooth and easy to follow. Explain the background of your images/texts and their connection to your thesis. Offend us by “explaining” your poster We know how to look at a poster. We are more interested in hearing your unique interpretations and having a interesting poster to look at while you explain your ideas.

How you will be graded: Total = 120 points Poster = 60 points Presentation = 60 points Total = 120 points Each section will receive either a 10, 8, 5, or 2 2= A small effort is made, but does not achieve standard 5= Some effort is made,  but doesn’t quite achieve standard 8= Makes a serious effort to meet standard and is fairly successful 10= Clearly meets standard

Poster Scoring Criteria Colorful and aesthetically pleasing Generates interest Images reflect full range of thesis statement Thesis, title of novel, & author are on poster Images are 1 from Depression Era, 1 from current era Reflects the mood of the story Neat, organized, easy to follow, enhances presentation

Presentation Scoring Criteria Eye contact with audience Appropriate volume Explains how images/texts relate to claim (thesis) Explains the background context of each image/text Displays confidence and mastery of concepts Thought provoking

Due Date: All Posters and presentations due on Friday, December 11. some will present on day of final: 5th/6th per: weds 12/16 7th per: thurs 12/17
