Fig. 1 Computed tomography scans 50 days before show a mass dorsal to the abdominal aorta in only 1 slice of the scans (open arrow in the upper panel), retrospectively diagnosed (see text). Repeated scans at the onset of back pain revealed that the mass, which was adjacent to the aorta but not filled with contrast, had progressed cranially to be seen in three slices (closed arrows in the lower panel).
