6. How should I write the rest of my resume? Ask yourself the following questions, What is most important to emphasize for the job I am applying for? Is it my skills, my education, or my work experience?

The chronological resume Most recent jobs/education come first Bullet points indicating what each job/experience involved (use action verbs) Use this style if you have lots of relevant work experience THIS IS THE KIND OF RESUME YOU SHOULD ALL AIM FOR, so you have to be proactive and seek out internships, and other experiences that are relevant to the future job you want to do.

The ‘transferable’ skills resume Emphasizes skills & accomplishments Use this style if you have little or no work experience Perhaps freshman, and sophomores who are applying for internships, will have this kind of resume. Whichever style you write, the basic principle is the same: You must match your skills, experience and knowledge with the skills being sought by the recruiter.

Your skills, experiences, and knowledge Skills, experience, and knowledge matching Job Requirements Your skills, experiences, and knowledge Verbal and written communication skills Interpersonal skills Teamwork skills Organisational skills Time management skills IT skills Attention to detail Passion / interest / drive Could do speaking activity at some point in this class – match a candidate with the job as filler. But probably don’t need to. Students can spend second part of class doing their homework.

Volunteer work painted murals on a community wall worked as care assistant for elderly people - support worker at kids summer English camp University club(s)/ experiences leader of book discussion club ran food tent at university festival recruited new members for ROTC worked as assistant to professor worked as university ambassador giving tours of campus worked as a student mentor to foreign students Internship(s) – This kind of experience is fantastic make sure you use this to really sell yourself what exactly were your duties/projects/achievements? what did the position involve?

Part-time job(s) as an academy piano or math teacher, for example as a private tutor as a shop assistant in a convenience store Other ‘non-university’ clubs (e.g. tennis club captain) Military service perhaps you had a position of responsibility squad leader? English camps (as student or teaching assistant) High school achievements Special qualifications TEOFL Advanced computer licenses/skills
