Lesson 10.5 – 10.6 Surface Area of Prisms, Cylinders, Pyramids, Cones and Spheres Essential Question: How do you find the surface area of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones and spheres?

Before we start… You want to repaint your bedroom. How would you figure out how much paint you needed?

What is a net? A two-dimensional pattern that forms a solid when it is folded

What is surface area? The sum of the areas of a polyhedron’s faces

How do you find the surface area of a prism? Use the formula: 𝑆𝐴=2𝐵+𝑃ℎ Surface Area equals twice the area of the base, B, plus the perimeter of the base, P, times the height, h.

How do you find the surface area of a pyramid? 𝑆𝐴=𝐵+ 1 2 𝑃𝑙 Surface area equals the area of the base, B, plus one half times the perimeter of the base, P, times the slant height, l.

What is the slant height? The height of the lateral face in a regular pyramid
