PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE AUGUST 21, 2017

A partial solar eclipse occurs when only part of the sun is blocked by the moon. It is visible wherever the penumbra (the lighter part of the moon’s shadow) hits the earth.

This video shows an overview of the path of the moon’s shadow across the U.S. Overview of the path of the moon’s shadow across the U.S.

Other Side of the Moon Video This video shows what the solar eclipse looks like from the other side of the moon. Other Side of the Moon Video

At least a partial eclipse will be visible from everywhere on the continental U.S.

https://eclipse.aas.org/ This map shows how much coverage of the sun is visible across the U. S.

WARNING Never look at the sun without proper eye protection because permanent eye damage could result.

There is basically one rule for safely viewing a partial solar eclipse: 1. Use proper eye protection at ALL times.

Ways to use holes to project images of the crescent sun:

Cross the slightly-opened fingers of one hand over the slightly-opened fingers of the other hand. The spaces between your fingers will project a grid of images of the visible part of the sun on the ground. https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/projection
