Flexible Instructional Time at JBHS By this time, all of you should be settled into your Home FIT classes and will soon be getting into the routine of attending FIT everyday. We’d like to take a few minutes to talk about FIT, so you know what you can expect. We will lso you the FIT portal which will allow you some autonomy to decide how you spend your Flexible Instructional Time. Student Instructional Video

Flexible Instructional Time The purpose of Flexible Instructional Time (FIT) is to systematically ensure every child receives the additional time and support required to master essential standards and learn at high levels. FIT meetings will occur everyday (Monday - Friday) 22 minutes First of all, Flexible Instructional Time, or FIT for short, is a way to make sure that you are able to take care of business during the school day. FIT will be everyday, Monday thru Friday, after 1st or 5th period and before 1st lunch.

Flexible Instructional Time Examples of meetings that teachers may offer: Pre-teaching vocabulary or prerequisite content Reteach Grade Remediation Make-up work Content review Study Skills Test prep (EOC, AP, SAT, etc.) Guided study Workshops FIT is a time for you to personalize your academic day. You can choose to use this time to get organized, complete homework assignments, meet with teachers for tutorials, make up missed assignments, and even explore subjects you’d like to learn more about. FIT is also a time for teachers to assign you to a session if they feel you need extra help, additional time, or for some other reason. If a teacher assigns you to a session, it doesn’t mean you are in trouble or have done something wrong, but you are required to attend. You will not be able to schedule yourself for any other session that day.

Priority Days DAY TEACHERS WITH PRIORITY MONDAY English TUESDAY Math WEDNESDAY Science THURSDAY Languages, Fine Arts, CTE, Electives FRIDAY Social Studies If no teacher has assigned you to a session on a particular FIT day, you are free to attend FIT in any subject you like. Even if you are passing and doing well in your classes, this is an opportunity for you to improve your skills and do even better. Expect to be assigned to a FIT session, and if you are not assigned, take the initiative to seek out a session that will benefit you. And, as we said before, if a teacher assigns you to a session, that’s where you gotta go. If more than one teacher wants to assign you to a FIT session, they will follow the priority day schedule you see here.

Basic FIT Rules Sign up in the Student Portal by 9:00 am everyday for a FIT session (if not assigned by a teacher) Go where you are supposed to go and stay there no restroom passes no library passes no locker trips no students in the halls or restrooms at all The rules are pretty simple. Check your FIT portal every morning. Teachers should give you 24 hours notice if they’ve assigned you to their session. If you have not been assigned to a session by a teacher, you must sign up for an open FIT session of your choice. This year, you will not be admitted to ANY teacher’s FIT session until you have signed up in the FIT Portal. On FIT days, go where you are supposed to be and stay there. You won’t be able to see a teacher last minute, run to the library, or go to the restroom, so plan in advance and come prepared. The only time a paper pass will be accepted is if you are being summoned to the office. You will also not be allowed to leave campus after 1st or 5th period. If you have 2nd or 6th period off, you are only allowed to leave campus after FIT.

What happens if I don’t go? The FIT portal will send a referral if you do not attend an assigned session. Each referral will result in: Conference with student parent phone call 1 lunch detentions If you skip FIT or miss a session assigned by your teacher, there will be consequences. If you’re still in the hall when the tardy bell rings for FIT, you will be taken to D108 where you will be assigned two detentions and then you will sit in silence for the rest of the FIT period. Don’t let this happen to you! Know where you’re going and get there quickly! If you miss a session assigned by your teacher, the FIT portal will automatically send a referral to an AP who will assign you detention.

FIT is designed to HELP you! Please speak with the teacher who scheduled a session with you if you need to meet with a different teacher. FIT is designed to HELP you! If you are scheduled by a teacher for a session and you feel like you need to meet with another teacher, please talk to the teacher who scheduled a meeting with you to work something out. FIT is designed to help you!

How do I schedule a FIT session? You will need a computer or smart phone with internet access Next, you will see how simple it is to use your smart phone or a computer to sign-up for FIT. Your homeroom sessions are already posted. Teachers are required to have their FIT sessions posted each Friday for the following week, so look for next week’s sessions after 5:00 pm on Friday. You may sign up for a FIT session at any time, but you must check your portal each morning to see if a teacher has assigned you to a session. All sessions are limited to a specified number of seats. Once those seats are filled, you will not be able to sign up for that session. The earlier you schedule a FIT session, the better your chances are of getting into the one you want!

Log in to the AISD Cloud Type “my.austinisd.org” in your browser bar Type in your AISD credentials To log into the AISD Cloud to access the student portal, you will first type “my.austinisd.org” into your browser bar.

Your Credentials Username: S1234567 Password: R073197s Student Number Capital S If you are new to AISD or just don’t remember how to log in, here is how you do it: Your user name will be the capital letter S and then your student number. Your default password is the capital of the first letter of your last name, your six digit birth date and then a lowercase s If you have changed your password and have forgotten what it is, it will need to be reset. Your teacher can reset it by calling the help desk. Lower-case “s” Capitalized first letter of your last name 6 digit birth date

Your FIT button will now be easy to find when you log into the Cloud. Just to let you know, the buttons you save as favorites will be in the third row. If you only see one or two rows of buttons, you can click “control” and “minus” to shrink your screen in order to see more at one time on your screen. Now, you can click on the button to enter the portal.
