ELA Vignettes This is a collection of vignettes showing teachers talking with teachers about the ELA Common Core State Standards. These teachers were Kenan Fellows that we mentored last year.

ELA Vignettes The vignettes are organized by topic such as close reading, text dependent questions, choosing complex texts, and more. Each vignette includes: a round table discussion with a teacher, what it looks like in the classroom, and the lesson plan.

Teaching Channel The Teaching Channel is a resource that provides opportunities to view strong, aligned teaching. This particular video is focused on ELA and Literacy.

Tulare County Resources Tulare County has developed resources for the ELA Common Core with regards to the standards. The bookmarks and the templates will help teachers understand the standards in terms of concepts and skills. Each has the anchor standard followed by the grade-specific standards, then essential skills and concepts, question stems and prompts, and academic vocabulary from the standard.  There is also a space to include standards that might integrate and resources that connect or support.

Tulare County Templates Here is an example of the template. These are available for all of the ELA Standards K-12.

Achieve the Core This 1.5 hour module is designed to guide school-level instructional leaders in beginning the work of understanding and implementing the Common Core. The module addresses five areas of consideration: Knowledge of the shifts, setting a vision for college and career readiness, developing clear metrics to guide the work, building capacity in the school, staying engaged in the work.

Instructional Practice Guides These tools provide specific guidance for what the CCSS for ELA/Literacy and Mathematics look like in daily planning and practice. They are designed as developmental tools for teachers and those who support teachers.  Use the Daily Instructional Practice Guides for: Teacher self-reflection, peer-to-peer observation and feedback, and instructional coaching.  The Supplement for Reflection Over the Course of the Year Guides can be used to facilitate planning and review practice over a semester or year.  Both the Daily and Over the Course of the Year Guides are available.

Instructional Practice Guides Each guide includes indicators of what administrators should look for with a rubric and room for notes. This can be used as a tool for walk-throughs and conferences with teachers.

Parent Roadmaps The Council of the Great City Schools' parent roadmaps in English language arts/literacy provide guidance to parents about what their children will be learning and how they can support that learning in grades K-12.

Parent Roadmaps Here’s an example. These parent roadmaps provide three-year snapshots showing how selected standards progress from year to year so that students will be college and career ready upon their graduation from high school.
